Cluster installation
To install NDD Print Host on a cluster, check the operating system and follow the steps below.
Cluster 2012 R2 environments
For environments using Windows Server 2012 R2 with NDD Print Server clusters, configuration involves creating a virtual machine in the cluster where the applications will be installed.
Installation steps
Follow the steps described in the topic Default installation
While running the installation wizard, the system will automatically detect that the environment is configured with Windows Server 2012 R2. In this case, a screen will appear asking you to choose the type of installation you want:
Standard
VM Monitoring
Select the VM Monitoring Cluster Installation option and click Next to continue
High availability environments
To ensure proper operation in high availability environments, it is mandatory to use a SQL Server database, as the SQLite version does not support multiple simultaneous access sources.
Installation wizard
While running the installation wizard, the system will automatically detect whether it is configured to operate in a failover cluster. If this is the case, a screen will be displayed asking you to choose the type of installation you want:
Standard
High availability
New installation: requires setting up a connection to the SQL Server database.
Add node to an existing installation: you will need to perform a connection test with a previously configured node. After validation, the settings will be copied automatically, eliminating the need to configure them again.
Post-installation
Once the installation is complete:
The Live Update Host service will be deactivated.
The following services will be automatically configured with the startup type set to Manual:
NDD Print Host
NDD Print Host Printers Monitor
NDD Print Host Cache Sync
NDD Print Host API
The NDD Print Host Cache Sync service was removed in version 5.59 of NDD Print Host.
As the startup type for these services is manual, you will need to start the services manually.
Cluster management configuration
To ensure system functionality in high availability clusters, follow these steps:
Create a new application in cluster management
Configure the generic services to include all services related to the NDD Print Host:
NDD Print Host
NDD Print Host Printers Monitor
NDD Print Host Cache Sync
NDD Print Host API
The NDD Print Host Cache Sync service was removed in version 5.59 of NDD Print Host.
These services will ensure that the NDD Print Host remains active on the currently operating cluster node.
The NDD Print Host Printers Monitor and NDD Print Host Cache Sync services should only be running on the active cluster node. On all other inactive nodes, the services must remain stopped.
If the active node fails, follow these steps to ensure correct operation:
Manually stop the services on the failed node.
Manually start the services on the new active node.
This action ensures that the NDD Print Host is running on the correct node and that the system operates properly.
When installing in high availability mode, the NDD Print Host administration interface will only be opened on the active node in the cluster
